Life and Times of Ida Parkinson

Born on a farm in Ireland, Ida ran away from home to train as a nurse at Belfast
Children’s Hospital – nursing was not considered a respectable profession in those days.
It was six months before her family knew where she was. On qualifying as a State
Registered Nurse she took a job at the Halifax General Hospital. District Nurse training
took place at St Cross Hospital, Rugby, where she began working in the community.
