Redditch People
Gordon Anstis
Planner & Historian
Gordon Anstis was a teacher and Headmaster of four
schools in the Redditch area. He served on the Board
of the Redditch Development Corporation from 1965
to 1985 and also narrated several local history films
and interviewed local residents for Mike Johnson's
oral history films.

Life and Times of Gordon Anstis
Gordon Anstis described himself as a Black
Countryman by birth and Redditch by
adoption. His teaching career had been
interrupted by six- and-a-half years' war
service in the King s Shropshire Light Infantry.
Later he became Headmaster of four schools
in the Redditch area; a member of the Schools
Council of England and Wales; Chairman of the
National Standing Conference of CSE Boards;
Chairman of the Hereford-Worcester Probation
Committee; Chairman of Redditch Justices and
he was also as- sociated with local voluntary
associations. He was on the Board of the
Redditch Development Corporation from 1965
to 1985.
