Life and Times of Frederick William Hollington
William Hollington first established a Drapers shop in Evesham Street in 1833.
He married Elizabeth Perks, in 1836 in Coughton and they had four children. Their son,
Frederick William Hollington, was born in 1841 and baptised on the 30th June in Redditch.
Both Frederick, and his father William, were Drapers in Evesham Street. However, by the
1871 census William and his wife were living at Calcut Hill Farm, Clent and William was
now a Farmer. He died in 1892 and his wife Elizabeth died in 1898.
Frederick married Elizabeth London in 1879 in Redditch but they had no children.
In the 1912 Kelly’s Directory of Worcestershire, Frederick Hollington’s shop was now
called F. W. Hollington & Co. Ltd., and sold Jewellery and Drapery at 21 & 23 Evesham
Street. Then in the 1924 Kelly’s Directory he had an Ironmongers shop as well at 25
Evesham Street.
Frederick William Hollington died 26th November 1925 and at that time was living at “Hill
Crest,” 60 Bromsgrove Road, Redditch.
The Hollingtons shop carried on for many years after his death and in the 1940 Kelly’s
Directory the Ironmongery was now at 33 Evesham Street and the Drapers at 27, 29 and
Hollingtons move to the Kingfisher Centre.
The 1975 West Midlands Phone Book confirms this. Notice
that Hollingtons did move to 38 Evesham Walk, keeping the
same phone Number Redditch 65121.
