Redditch Territorial’s Death from Wounds – Military Funeral – Military

honours were accorded at the funeral on Wednesday of Private C. Maries, of the 8
Battalion Worcestershire Regiment, formerly of Redditch, who died in a London hospital
following wounds received in action. This is the third death among the men of the Redditch
Company of Territorials at the front, and in addition Lieutenant P.M. Kerwood has also been
killed. At the funeral of Private Maries there was a large attendance, including relatives and
friends, members of the Reddith Urban District Council, Rifle Corps, Recruiting Committee,
the police, and soldiers on leave. A firing party from Worcester fired the customary volley at
the graveside. Appropriate music was played by the Holyoake’s Field Brass Band. The
funeral ceremony was conducted by the Rev. A. Cardross Grant (Vicar).
