The Bromsgrove, Droitwich and Redditch Messenger – Saturday 12 June

Redditch Policeman killed – Official information is to hand of the death of Police-
constable John Taylor, who was stationed at Redditch. A naval reservist, he was in the siege
of Antwerp, and was afterwards included in the force sent to the Dardenelles. He was a
single man, and is the second county police-officer to fall.

D.C.M. For Redditch Soldier – Sergeant-Major Malins, formerly of Redditch, has
been awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal “for conspicuous gallantry on the night of

march 24 -25 , in carrying a wounded man from within thirty yards of the enemy’s trenches
into cover under very heavy and accurate fire. He has been brought to notice for his
consistent bravery on patrol duty and for good work as a sniper.” It is reported this week
that Sergeant-Major Malins has been wounded in action, and is now in hospital in
Chichester.
