               Foxlydiate Man’s Death from Wounds – Military Funeral at Tardebigge – The
               funeral of Lance-sergeant Oscar Andrews, of the Cheshire Regiment, third son of Mr George
               F. Andrews of Foxlydiate Hill, took place at Tardebigge Churchyard on Monday afternoon.
               The deceased was wounded in the Dardanelles, and brought to hospital in Manchester,

               where he died on September 1 .  The funeral cortege was preceded by the firing party from
               Norton Barracks.  The elder scholars from Tardebigge School (of which the deceased was an
               old scholar) were drawn up on either side the entrance to the churchyard.  The coffin was
               draped with the Union Jack, and bore the inscription, “Lance-sergeant Oscar Andrews, died

               September 1 , aged 26 years.”  Among the many floral tributes were: “In memoriam, from
               father and mother, with deep sorrow,”
               “From Annie and May, our last token of love”;
               “In loving memory from Edie”;
               “In memoriam from Jack and Maud”;
               “Deepest sympathy, from Aunt Sarah and family”;
               “Deepest sympathy, from Aunt Alice and family”;
               “With sincere sympathy, from Mr and Mrs Lee and family”;
               “With deepest sympathy, from Mrs Twigg.”
