Pte. Oliver Summers, D.C.M., Studley, near Redditch, and Pte. Walter
Dobbins, only son of Mr and Mrs Albert Dobbins, Archer Road, Redditch, both of the War.
R., have died of wounds. It is but a few weeks ago that Summers was awarded the
Distinguished Conduct medal for gallantry in the field. Dobbins and he were both old boys of
Redditch Secondary School and of Saltley Training College, and both enlisted shortly after the
outbreak of war. Prior to enlisting Summers was a teacher in one of the Birmingham Council
Schools, and Pte. Dobbins was assistant master at St Luke’s Schools, Headless Cross,
Redditch, and of the Redditch Evening Continuation School.

Walter F. Dobbins is remembered on St Stephen’s war memorial and St Luke’s war memorial, Headless Cross.
