Headless Cross Man’s Second Honour – Bar to Military Medal – A few weeks ago
Private Reginald Pretty of Headless Cross, was awarded the Military Medal for gallantry in
the field. His mother, who resides at Birchfield Road, has now received a letter from the
Company Sergt.-Major informing her that her son has been awarded a second decoration in
the shape of a bar to the Medal already received. The captain recommends the second
honour for work done in a recent great battle. Pretty was one of the runners, and did his
work in a most soldierly way. In his task he showed great courage and gallantry under shell
fire. He is now in hospital at Bristol, suffering from wounds, and the pleasure of informing
him of his second honour has been left to his mother.
