Britain’s £6,700,000,000 War Bill – The Chancellor of the Exchequer stated in the
House of Commons on Tuesday that the cost of the war to the United Kingdom up to March
st
31 was £6.700,000,000. He gave the figure, however, with all reserve. It was arrived at,
after making the allowance annually taken for normal peace expenditure, on the one hand,
and for debts due from the Dominions and Allies on the other hand.
1,299 British Missing- The number of untraced British prisoners of war who are
known to have fallen into the hands of the German authorities has lately been reduced by
one half. Captain Guest states, but there are still 1,299 cases unsettled.
