German Admiral to be Tried – 1,800 Officers and Men in Custody – The sinking of
the German Fleet at Scapa Flow was considered at Versailles on Monday. It is understood
that Rear-Admiral von Reuter, who was in charge of the vessels and gave the order to sink
them, will be tried by naval court-martial.
Admiral von Reuter, with other German officers is under arrest at Nigg, near Inverness,
where, it is stated, he takes his position quite calmly, and shows some reticence about the
manner in which his plans were carried out.
There are in all the times says, some 1,800 officers and men from the German ships now in
the custody of the British naval authorities. A few officers and men are thought to be still at
large on the islands; and there is every reason to believe that a number of German sailors
failed to effect their escape from the sinking ships.
