       The Police Station Building

Description The Police Station was a structure of brick with stone facings, erected in 1898 at a
cost of £7,000. The building shown on the left of the postcards was the police station. The
building on the right was the magistrates’ court, which the 1901 census referred to as the Police
       Court’.
There were the superintendent and inspector’s houses, single constables’ quarters, lock-ups,
retiring rooms and one large room in which the magistrates’ meetings and the county court were
held.³² The previous police station had been built in Evesham Street in 1864..
