Some of the Post Office staff were cited in the Church Road census returns. In 1891 the
Postmaster was William Webb, a widower, born about 1854, in Bromsgrove. His son, Richard
William, was a clerk in the Post Office in 1891 and 1901. (In 1896 Richard Webb was also a cycle
agent.⁴⁴) Thomas Owen, born in Redditch, was a letter carrier in 1891.Thomas Owen was still a
letter carrier in 1901, but no longer living in Church Road. He was a boarder at 1 no. 2, Court,
Hill Street, but his wife was not with him. He died in 1905. In 1901 John Carter was a caretaker
and postman living with his wife in the Post Office.
The Overseer in the Post Office in 1911 was Richard Webb, William Webb’s son. He and his family
still lived in Church Road, but again the house number was not given. His daughter, Doris Webb
was 18 at that time and was an assistant in the Post Office. In 1914 the postmaster was J. Catte.⁴⁵
