The HISTORY of REDDITCH New Town
The Bartleet Fountain
The Bartleet Fountain was unveiled with great ceremony on 15th May 1883, by Mrs.
Bartleet, wife of the generous donor Mr. R. S. Bartleet, Magistrate and sometime Deputy
Lieutenant of Worcestershire and one of the most prominent figures in the local needle
industry.
The fountain was presented to the town to commemorate the introduction of waterworks
to the town.
Made of cast iron, by the celebrated Coalbrookdale Company in Shropshire, it was intended
as ‘a joy forever’.
A picture of tranquility on Church Green from the 1970’s shows the continuing allure of
the heart of old Redditch.
