The HISTORY of REDDITCH New Town
Morton Stanley Park has a total area of 38 hectares and offers a rich mosaic of habitat
and interest, there are formal areas designed for play and recreation, risky play including
twin zip wires and a skate park. There are many historic landscape features within the
park including mature hedgerows and veteran trees; there is evidence of remnant
orchards and large open areas of wildflower meadow managed under a higher level
stewardship agreement.
The park has large expanses of open mown areas and formal marked football pitches
and several ecologically rich ponds both in the park and within a woodland setting. Morton
Stanley Park also benefits from rich vistas, to the south aspect Walkwood Coppice
occupies the ridge line and provides a woodland walk setting, to the west and far into
the distance there is a clear view of the distant Malvern’s.
In August the park plays host to the Morton Stanley Park Festival one of the largest free
music and arts events in the region, thousands of visitors visit the park for this calendar
event that has grown both in size and popularity since 2004, in 2011 over thirty artists
performed on two huge stages to thousands of visitors, in 2012 the festival is embracing
both live music, art and performance
