The HISTORY of REDDITCH New Town



        Making the Environment Accessable


        One of the most significant facts that is often overlooked in the planning of the New Town
        was the attention to preserving existing countryside hedgerows.
        An extensive survey and mapping was carried out on the land to be built on and, as the
        new housing and industrial estates were laid out, the existing hedgerows were preserved
        wherever possible.
        These hedgerows, together with the incorporation of pedestrian walk ways to deliver the
        vision of pedestrian/traffic separation, are evident today in the town as you walk down
        any of these footpaths such as the one shown below.
