Society to build on show success - 2007

AFTER the success of Jekyll and Hyde, Redditch Operatic Society is already making plans for
               the New Year.
The society, which celebrates its 47th birthday this year and has more than 70 acting and
non-acting members, has more big productions in mind.
A society spokesman said: "Jekyll and Hyde was definitely a major investment by any
standards and I think we pulled it off magnificently.
"The production was a great success and we'd like to thank all of those who got involved and
               helped out.
"We couldn't have wished for it to go any better."
Rehersals for the next show start in January and the society is looking for men of any age
and especially ladies with alto voices.

Award for top musical – April 2008

A MUSICAL performed by Redditch Operatic Society has been announced as the best musical
               in Worcestershire.
The society's production of Jekyll & Hyde at the Palace Theatre, performed last November,
was given the award by the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA), beating
               stiff competition from other societies.
A society spokesman said: "We're delighted to win this accolade, which reflects just what a
stunning show Jekyll & Hyde was.
"We knew from the start of rehearsals that this would be a special production, with excellent
scenery designed and built especially for the theatre stage by our own director, Kevin Hirons,
stunning costumes, a super orchestra and great performances from every member of the 50-
               strong cast."
Advertiser retail sales executive Michelle Buckley, who appeared in the production, is also
celebrating after receiving an award from NODA for being with the organisation for 10
               years.
She added: "The society goes all out to make sure the shows are as good as they can be and
everything is really professionally done. The committee took a real chance with Jekyll & Hyde
but it paid off. The music was both beautiful and haunting."
The society is hoping to capitalise on this success as it begins preparations for its next major
production, the comedy musical The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, which will be at the
               Palace Theatre in November.
It is also keen to attract more men to join, particularly younger men aged 16 and upwards.
