applications The role played by Systems is to assist their users to understand
the basics of time-sharing and to support them in the design and use of time-
sharing techniques to solve business, scientific and engineering problems in
       their day to day work.

The wide ranging application of timesharing can best be illustrated by
considering some of the areas where its implementation has brought about

       significant improvements.

Ÿ Used to determine model variants to be sold from predictions of market penetration.

Ÿ Calculation of expected profit from model variants in different markets. (These
calculations used to take 6 weeks and now take a 1/2 day.)

Ÿ Checking and establishing feasibility of operation of Wholesale Vehicle Finance.

Ÿ Capital finance control on the new assembly hall for LC8.
        Ÿ Revenue projection.

Ÿ Business planning in second hand car sales, car hire / leasing, forecourt sales and
UNIPART shop, to forecast profits over a 1 h to 2 year period.
Ÿ Parts monitoring and network timing.

        Ÿ Personnel records and information
          retrieval for EITB.

        Ÿ Capacity planning for facilities
          utilisation and optimisation.

Ÿ Modelling manning levels for new
          models.

Experience has shown that a time-

       sharing solution is applicable on
       many occasions and with the
       general packages available,

       development lead times can be
reduced to a minimum and also
       provide subsequent development

       flexibility.
