Remembering ISTEL
Experience gained so far with this system at Longbridge confirms the claims of
others that such systems make significant improvements to productivity and
quality and help improve product performance, whilst simultaneously
reducing the overall time needed to develop the product. Our competitors are
investing large sums of money in such facilities; greater exploitation of this
technology is one way that we can ensure our ability to keep up with the
competition in the future.
Mini computers in vehicle supply
The control of vehicles in an assembly plant from the end of the manufacturing
process through to despatch to distributors is an activity which demands very
careful control and good documentation systems. Systems are currently
developing a mini computer based application called MINIVICS (Mini
Computer Based Vehicle Inventory Control System) which will play an
important role in meeting BL Cars commitments to the control of finished
vehicles. It will provide significant improvements in the production and flow of
documentation and also to provide links to the financial books of account. The
system comprises 11 major projects, which will assist Supply Operations from
Order Control, through Order Submission. Vehicle Acceptance. Order to Vehicle
Allocation. Shipping and Despatch.
The system will provide
improved enquiry facilities,
management reports and an
interface with Finance, so
that vehicles with financial
restrictions can be identified
and rapid action taken.
The automatic matching of
vehicles with orders and the
production of movement
documents will be a major
feature together with the
management of finished
vehicle compounds,
shipping reservations and
control.
