FIRST BANDS

John would regularly visit Redditch Youth Club on

George St (now the Redditch Ringway - B98 7AE) which

was one of the venues to see bands play and it was

here in 1963, he met and joined the Blue Star Trio aged

just 15. In this period, he also jammed and sat in with

many other local bands including Gerry Levene & the

Avengers.

Terry Webb & The Spiders

At 16 he joined his first semi-professional band, Terry

Webb & The Spiders. This photo is one of the earliest of

John playing in a band and was taken at the Red Lion

pub, Upton Snodsbury, near Worcester (now a private

house). The band looked resplendent in purple jackets

with velvet lapels!
