PRE LED ZEPPELIN
The Nicky James Movement formed in Birmingham and
although they never got to record, they were active
across a two-year period. Their members included
several musicians on the Brum Beat scene who later
became important - Roy Wood, Bev Bevan and Mike
Pinder. John Bonham (pictured top left) succeeded
Bev Bevan in 1965.
The Nicky James Movement
Next came Pat Wayne & The Beachcombers. This
Birmingham band were very well known locally in
the early 1960s and were amongst the city's top live
acts at the time. When a young drummer named
John Bonham joined them in 1966 his drumming style
and volume ended up drowning out the rest of the
band on stage! After a few months and a number of
bookings, John made an amicable departure.
