Association. Generally known affectionately as Aunty Madge', she founded the Sunset
Pensioners Club and has been involved in a number of clubs and associations for the
young and ethnic minorities; including literacy classes for Asian women, as a Governor at
St Lukes First School and as Press Officer for the Police & Community Liaison Group.

Other areas of service include chairing the Community Relations Council, being President
of the All Women's House, and running an advice surgery and translation service for
residents.

She was persuaded to serve on the Council in 1987 and in May 1991 she was elected
Mayor. During her 9 years as a Councillor, Madge served on 11 Council committees and
chaired the Equal Opportunities Sub-committee and the Finance & Genera! Purposes
Sub-committee.

Madge has received a number of Awards for her work including an MBE for services to the
community.
