Cllr. R. David Watton

Redditch Mayor in 1984

When he was Mayor, British Rail London Midland
Region staged a number of rail weeks in the West
Midlands to promote the Railway and to get people to
use local rail services. At the start of Redditch Rail
week on the 25th March 1985, the then Mayor David
Watton waved a green flag to signal the “right of
way” for the 11.22 train to Birmingham New Street
and Lichfield
