Redditch People
the house came first and the road was named after it. The Worcestershire Department of
Sites and Monuments have been told that there is an old burial ground under Elm Road,
but this has never been proved by excavation.
William Woodfield was born in Redditch in 1834 and married Annie Russell who was born
in 1835. Census records show they had 12 children born between 1857 and 1877, six
boys and six girls. They lived in Elmsdale House.
Their needlemaking business, W. Woodfield & Sons, was at Victoria Mills, Redditch in 1850
and Easemore Works in 1877. They made products under the trademarks of cross, vine
and flowers. They also made Needle Cases and Fish Hooks.
William died in 1913 and Annie in 1921.
