Recruiting Meeting at Redditch – Under the auspices of the Parliamentary
Recruiting Committee, a crowded public meeting was also held on Saturday night at the
Artillery Drill Station, Redditch. The local committee who had the arrangement of the event
in hand had originally arranged for a mass outdoor meeting on the Church Green, but owing
to a heavy downpour of rain this could not be done. A procession was formed and paraded
the principal streets of the town, flags being flown from the principal public buildings and
business premises. Mr G. E. Leach presided at the meeting, and was supported by Mr
Leverton Harris, M.P., Mr Wilfred Hill (prospective Liberal candidate for the division), Colonel
               H. S. Bartleet Colonel Dixon, Colonel C. F. Milward and others. – Mr Leverton Harris, M.P., Mr
Wilfred Hill, Colonels H. S. Bartleet, M. Dixon, and C. F. Milward, and Mr Clements of the
Birmingham Trades Union, addressed the meeting; and a resolution pledging the meeting to
support all measures found necessary for the successful prosecution of the war, whereby
alone the lasting peace of Europe could be assured, was unanimously carried. About 30
               recruits were obtained.
