Redditch District Council and the War – At the monthly meeting of the Redditch
Urban District Council, on Thursday night; Mr J. Guise presiding, reference was made to the
war. Mr Cox proposed that a committee should be formed with a view to trying to regulate
the prices of supplies, and to familiarise people with the altered conditions. No doubt, he
said, some hardships would be experienced, but the appointment of a representative
committee would probably avoid panic. After discussion the Chairman of Committees were
appointed, a committee to take the initial steps, and were empowered to call together a
larger committee should occasion arise. It was stated that five reservists in the employ of
the Council had been called up to duty with the Imperial forces, and the question of giving
financial assistance to their wives and families was referred to the committee.
