               Redditch District Council and the War – At the monthly meeting of the Redditch
               Urban District Council, on Thursday night; Mr J. Guise presiding, reference was made to the
               war.  Mr Cox proposed that a committee should be formed with a view to trying to regulate
               the prices of supplies, and to familiarise people with the altered conditions.  No doubt, he
               said, some hardships would be experienced, but the appointment of a representative
               committee would probably avoid panic.  After discussion the Chairman of Committees were
               appointed, a committee to take the initial steps, and were empowered to call together a
               larger committee should occasion arise.  It was stated that five reservists in the employ of
               the Council had been called up to duty with the Imperial forces, and the question of giving
               financial assistance to their wives and families was referred to the committee.
