Redditch and the War – The 3 (Redditch) Battery of Artillery left Redditch by train on
Saturday, and it was understood will do duty at the Isle of Wight. A few days previously the
                                                                      th
members of the other Territorial corps – “H” Company 8 Battalion Worcestershire Regiment
               – also left the town. The effects of the war are not as yet seriously felt, but in some cases it
has been found necessary to place employees on short time. The tradesmen, at a
representative meeting held at the Temperance Hall on Monday, decided to close their shops
earlier while the war continues. Ladies of the town are taking steps with a view to making
garments for the soldiers and sailors, and arrangements are also being made by the local
Voluntary Aid Detachment of the Red Cross Society to obtain beds and bedding.
