               Birmingham Gazette – Monday 25 January 1915

Response of Redditch to Call for Recruits – A successful demonstration
arranged by the East Worcestershire Parliamentary Recruiting Committee, took place at
Redditch last night. The Public hall was packed. The speakers were Councillor W. H. Lord,
chairman of the East Worcester Parliamentary Recruiting Committee, and Councillor Hallas,
of Birmingham, and patriotic songs were given by Miss Mona Magnet, of the Alexandra
               Theatre, Birmingham.

Mr Lord referred to the splendid response Redditch had made to the call for recruits, there
being no less than 2,000 men from the town who were serving their King and country, but,
he added, still more were wanted to win.

Councillor Hallas remarked that Germany as a nation was suffering from a severe attack of
swelled head, and it was apparent wished to rule the world by force of arms.
