Redditch Petty Sessions – Lighting Order - Wednesday – Before Colonel C. F.

Lighting Order – Alfred Smith, landlord of the Nags Head Inn, Alcester Street, Redditch, was

summoned for an offence against the Lighting Order, at Redditch, on March 26 – Mr G. W.
Hobson defended, and pleaded not guilty. – Evidence was given by Inspector Wagstaff that
he saw a brilliant light shining across Smith Street on to a building on the opposite side of
the road. The light came from two of the bar windows. He spoke to defendant’s wife,
defendant not being at home, and she expressed regret and said the shade had fallen off the
lamp. – Defendant stated he was anxious to comply with the regulations. He had provided a
screen for the light, while in addition there was a green blind, frosted glass, and the top part
of the window was painted green. Altogether he had spent £3 or £4. – Defendant, who had
been convicted for a similar offence a fortnight previously, was now fined £2. – for a like

offence at his premises, on March 25 , James Scott Murdoch, tailor, Alcester Street,
Redditch, was fined £1. – Sergeant Best proved the case.
