               1916, Western European Theatre.  Buried Laventie Military Cemetery, La Gorgue, France.

               Mr and Mrs W. H. Silk, of Worcester Road, Redditch, have received
               information that their son Bernard, has been killed in action.  Prior to enlisting in the
               army the deceased had rendered service in the Y.M.C.A. huts and before the war he had
               been actively interested in the Boy Scout movement.

               Unofficial information has been received by the relatives in Redditch

               of the death from wounds of Private J. Smallwood, Easemore Road, Redditch.  Deceased
               served in one of the Birmingham City Battalions.

               (On the 1911 census John William was living with his mother Kate, widow and Fishing Tackle Manufacturer,
               living Easemore Road, Redditch.  On the 1901 census John was living with his parents William, Needle
               Manufacturer, and Kate and they lived Forge Mills, Redditch.)
