Two Headless Cross Soldiers Killed continued
News has been received by Mrs Griffen, 40 Evesham Road, Headless Cross, that her son,
Gunner E. Griffen, R.F.A. (Redditch Battery), died from wounds received in action on August

21 . He was 23 years of age, and was a member of the battery at the outbreak of hostilities.
He had been in France two years and six months, and like Sergt. Vale was one of the older
members of the battery. Gunner Griffen was one of four sons who had seen active service.
Another brother was wounded 18 months ago. and another has suffered the loss of a leg.
The officer of the battery says the whole of the men mourn his loss.

Remembered on St Luke’s war memorial, Headless Cross, Redditch.
(On the 1911 census Ernest, aged 16, Printer Bronzer, lived with his parents Charles and Caroline Griffin at 40
Evesham Road, Headless Cross.)
