Redditch Military Medallists - Sergeant Frederick Edmund Wilkes has been awarded
the Military Medal for devotion to duty he is the son of Mr and Mrs Albert Wilkes, of the
Sportsman’s Arms, Peakman Street, Redditch. When war broke out he was in Macloud,
Alberta, Canada. He rode 80 miles to the nearest recruiting station, and was in France in
January, 1915, where he has been since. He is now attached to an anti-aircraft batter. He
has a brother in the Army who has been mentioned in despatches for meritorious work.
Sergeant Albert James, son of Mr Paul James, of Glover Street, Redditch, has been awarded
the Military Medal. He was called up with the Redditch Battery in August, 1914, and has
since been transferred to a trench mortar battery. The particulars giving the account of his
conduct which gained him the medal have not been received.
