Serbian Relief Fund – Miss A Frances Parkinson visited Redditch this week in the
interests of the Serbian Relief Fund. Miss Parkinson was he only English person in Nish at the
time of its occupation by Germans and Bulgars. She had to stay in that town for eight
months and she was compelled to travel alone through Austria and Germany, including a
fortnight at Berlin. She spoke of Tuesday at the Church Institute and on Wednesday at the
Wesleyan Chapel. In the course of a lengthy address she said she thought she knew and
understood the Germans, having lived with them, but said she was mistaken. She related
several incidents showing the terrible condition of the Serbian people, and of how they had
suffered during the four years of war.
