Machine Gunner Killed in Action - Private Albert Swaithe, Machine Gun Corps;
Headless Cross, formerly of Bromsgrove – Private Albert Swaithe, of the Machine Gun Corps,
formerly attached to the Machine gun Section of the Royal Warwicks, son of Mr and Mrs
Frederick Swaithe of Headless Cross, near Redditch, and up to recently of the strand

Bromsgrove, was killed in action on March 27 . Private Swaithe was 22 years of age and
single. He joined up from Bromsgrove in 1915, but his parents removed to Headless Cross
about three months ago. Writing to his parents, the Captain of the deceased’s company
states that Private Swaithe was killed by a shell, and death was instantaneous. He adds: -
“The gallantry of your boy while working his gun in the late operations has been beyond all
praise.”
