               The Bromsgrove, Droitwich and Redditch Messenger – Saturday 1  June 1918













               Military Medal for Crabbs Cross Soldier – Mr and Mrs Andrew Bird, of Crabbs
               Cross, have received information to the effect that their son, Lance-Corporal Alfred Bird, has
               been awarded the Military Medal for gallant conduct in the field.  Lance-Corporal Bird is an
               old scholar of the Crabbs Cross Wesleyan Sunday School.

               Battalion (Forest of Dean) (Pioneers) Gloucestershire Regiment, died 30  March 1918,
               Western European Theatre.  Remembered on Pozieres Memorial, France, father Thomas and
               mother Mary Bird and they lived at 18 Mount Street, Redditch.  Alfred was aged 38 at the
               time of his death. His wife Emily Ann Bird, lived at the Red Lion Hotel, Alvechurch.
               Remembered on St Stephen’s war memorial Also a Alfred Howard Bird remembered on Astwood Bank war
               memorial but not sure this is the correct Alfred Bird but unable to find another.

               Remembered on St George’s war memorial, Redditch
               (On 1911 census Frederick Heath aged 17, Press Worker, lived with his widowed mother Eliza and 2 brothers at
               119 St George’s Road, Redditch.  On the 1901 census Frederick Heath aged 7, lived with his parents Charles and
               Eliza and siblings at 119 St George’s Road, Redditch.)
