Headless Cross – Welcome to Soldiers – On Monday the Wesley Guild arranged a
social evening, to which the returned soldiers associated with the Church and Sunday School
were invited and welcomed home. There was a good attendance, and the evening was
pleasantly spent. The Rev. J. A. A. Baker and Messrs. G. Rollins and H. Johnson offered words
of welcome, and these were replied to by Pte. B. Melley. – The Wesleyan Church have
recently opened their School room for the purpose of a social club for the young men and
women of the church and School.

Death of A Webheath Soldier – Mrs T. Such, Bromsgrove Road, Webheath, has

received news of the death of her husband, Driver T. Such, 4 Battalion, Royal Field Artillery,
th
from pneumonia at the C.C. Hospital, Cologne. Driver Such, died on the 15 February. He
was 26 years of age, and previous to joining the army was employed by the B.S.A. Company,
Redditch.
(On Ancestry Site Military records, Driver Thomas Such Service No 167301, Roya Field
th
Artillery, was awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal, died 15 February 1919.
Buried in Cologne Southern Cemetery, Germany.)
Remembered on St Stephen’s and St Philip’s war memorials, Redditch.
(On the 1911 census a Thomas Such, aged 18, Milling Machine Attendant at Cycle Factory, lived with his

parents Thomas and Esther Such, at 6 Silver Street, Redditch. His brother Fred Such died of wounds 7 May
1917.)
