Jesse Clifford Hemming continued

               The Bromsgrove, Droitwich and Redditch Messenger – Saturday 8
               September 1917

               Redditch Officer Killed – Mr W. G. Hemming, Windsor Mill, Redditch, and now residing at
               King’s Norton, and head of the firm of Messrs. W. E. Hemming, Ltd., needle and fish hook
               makers, Redditch, has received information that his third son, Second-Lieutenant Jesse
               Hemming, has been killed in action.  He joined the Artists’ Rifles in October, 1915, and was

               commissioned in the Worcesters on August 3 , 1917.  On August 27  he led his men for the
               first time into action, and on-going over the top was shot by a sniper.  He was about 38 years
               of age.  Previous to the war Lieut. Hemming was a valuer with the Land Valuation
               Department at Birmingham.  He was an enthusiastic bowler, connected with the Redditch
               Union Club team.
