Redditch Heritage High Duty Alloys
A Known Target
Examination of
German maps after
the war showed High
Duty Alloys, Redditch
clearly marked as a
bombing target, but
fortunately the
nearest bomb to be
dropped fell some
distance away when
it was dumped by an
enemy aircraft that
wished to make a
quick departure from
the area. For defence
purposes anti-
aircraft guns were
mounted on top of
the hill next to forge
Mill (where the
crematorium now
stands) and both the
factory and the gas
works were
camouflaged. There
was some film (which
we have not been
able to track down)
that showed the
foundry near the
Work’s entrance still
camouflaged in the
1950s.
