The HISTORY of REDDITCH New Town
The concept of the Transport Interchange was based on the interchange of pedestrians
between road and rail. A new railway station on the north side of Bromsgrove Road, a
new bus station built on the corner of Oakly Road, a pedestrian link up to Worcester Walk
and a taxi rank adjacent to Plymouth Road. There was also a ’kiss and ride’ facility from
the Ring Distributor Road. Top priority, all areas had to be disabled friendly provided with
lifts and ramps.
The new platforms at the railway station took 12 weeks to complete instead of 6 weeks
programmed by British Rail. The national builders strike and design revisions delayed
