The HISTORY of REDDITCH New Town
One member of the Corporation and a police officer attended every road junction around
the Town Centre when Evesham Street was permanently closed to traffic and a major
diversion route implemented.
The second phase of the Ring Distributor connected Prospect Hill to the island at the end
of the Coventry Highway. However, local politics caused over 50 designs to be carried
out and rejected before the final solution to connect with the Alvechurch Highway was
agreed. The road was opened in 1983.
A map of the Kingfisher Centre Development and the proposed Ringway published in a
Redditch Indicator supplement date May 17, 1968 under the heading “Road Pattern is Basically
Simple!”
