The HISTORY of REDDITCH New Town
Bordesley Abbey & Forge Mill
One of the largest Cistercian
Monastery sites in the UK, with
regular digs to unearth its
secrets, the last water powered
scouring mill in the world which
was officially opened by the
Queen. The visitors centre was
created from a 16th century
barn - how can Redditch be a
“New Town”?
All this set in a green spine to the
town that stretches four miles down
to Washford Mill and contains a 27
acre man-made lake which is on the
doorstep of 80,000 Redditch residents.
Recreation and leisure is one of the
successes of the New Town.
