Life and Times of Edward Windsor
Son of William and Margaret.
m. Lady Katherine de Vere daughter of John 16th earl of Oxford.
Edward made Hewell his main residence and considerably enlarged the deer park.
Edward fought at the siege of St Quentin (10th August 1557). The late arriving English
army missed the actual battle but stayed on for the siege. Under Pembroke he supported
the Habsberg Philip II of Spain who was married to Mary I of England. The opposition
was the French Valois dynasty. Edward fought under the command of the earl of Bedford.
Also present at the siege was Nicholas Throckmorton 4th son of Sir George
Throckmorton of Coughton Court. Edward like the Throckmortons was a staunch Roman
Catholic. Edward lived for many years on the continent of Europe and is buried in Venice.
