Redditch People
she discovered that many of her ancestors had lived in Redditch and Studley, and she
found many forgotten relatives.
After many years in secretarial work Anne attended Shenstone Teacher Training College
in Bromsgrove as a mature student. She taught English and commercial subjects for eight
years, followed by three years at Redditch YMCA and four years with the Health Authority
She has also 'temped' at many local companies including Terry's Springs, Needle
Industries, GKN, ISTEL and Blakenhurst prison. On taking early retirement, Anne found
that the combination of shorthand and typing skills, her knowledge of English, and a
lifelong interest in history, made her an ideal person to record oral history. Encouraged
by Redditch library, she began writing and publishing and has now written eleven books
in total. The local history books include oral histories of Royal Enfield and Stourport-on-
severn.
Her book “Old Redditch Voices” is one of the mus read books about Redditch.
