Russell Brookes

Rally Driver & British Rally Champion

An English former rally driver. He won the British
Rally Championship with a Ford Escort RS1800 in
1977 and with an Opel Manta 400 in 1985. In 1978,
he won the Rally New Zealand, a round of the FIA Cup
for Drivers, the predecessor to the World
Championship for Drivers. In the World Rally
Championship, he finished on the podium of his home
event, the RAC Rally, three times in a row from 1977
to 1979.

Bronwen Cardy

Long distance runner

Bronwen G. Cardy was born in 1952 in the                                 1952 -
Bromsgrove District. She became a long-distance
runner of national and international standard. When                   Bronwen Cardy
she was 16 she was elected to represent Wales. She

cross country. In 1998 she was British Steel's 'Queen
of the Mountains' when she ran the 15 miles from
Caerphilly to Cardiff. Bronwen ran the Birmingham
marathon in 2 hours 58 minutes 30 seconds. In 2000
she smashed the World Veterans record 10,000m for
Women over 45.
