Charles Hardman was born about 1829 in Suffolk to                (Source: Rob Love)
parents William Hardman and Sarah. He married
Mary Morgan in 1855 in Halesowen and they had 3
children. On the 1871 census Charles was a Police
Sergeant living with his wife and family at the Police
Station in Evesham Street, Redditch. He became
Superintendent of Police in Great Witley,
Worcestershire but when he retired he moved back
to Redditch. At the time of his death in 1908 he was
living at 30 Millsborough Road, Redditch.

Life and Times of Charles Hardman

Charles Hardman was born in Suffolk to parents William Hardman and Sarah. He married
Mary Morgan in 1855 in Halesowen and they had 3 children.

On the 1871 census Charles was aged 42 and a Police Sergeant and had his wife Mary
(43) plus 3 children plus 1 visitor and 1 prisoner staying with him at home and they lived
at the Police Station, Evesham Street, Redditch.

In the 1872 Post Office Directory it stated that the Police Station was erected in 1864 in
Evesham Street with residence for the Sergeant, lockups, the magistrates room and the
county court rooms, with retiring rooms and every convenience; the cost was close to
£2,000.

On the 1881 census Charles was Supt. of Police in Great Witley, Worcestershire. By the
1891 census Charles was classed as retired Superintendant of Police and lived with his
wife Mary in Beoley Road, Redditch. Charles died 16th October 1908 and at this time
had been living at 30 Millsborough Road, Redditch.
