Redditch Petty Sessions – Wednesday – Before Colonel H. S. Bartleet (chairman),
Colonel C. F. Milward, and Mr W. D. Hollington.
Rates on Tardebigge Village Hall. – Mr Bate (of the Hewell Estate Office), on behalf of the
Earl of Plymouth, applied for the rates on the Village Hall, Tardebigge, now used as a
convalescent home for wounded soldiers, to be excused. – In reply to the Chairman, Mr Bate
said no rent was paid for the use of the Hall, and the rates had been paid by Earl Plymouth
until May last. – Mr Job Penzer, assistant overseer, said the overseers did not oppose the
application. – The Chairman said the Bench were in sympathy with the application, but they
had no power to excuse the rate. If the War Office approved, or if they would take over the
building at a nominal rent for the period of the war, and the application was renewed, the
Bench might then be able to excuse the rate.
