Crabbs Cross Soldier Killed – Mrs Lee, the Slough, Crabbs Cross, has been officially
informed that her youngest son, Private J. W. Lee, of the Royal Berks Regiment, has fallen in
th
action. In the fighting on June 7 he was so severely wounded that he died before he
reached the dressing station. He was only 19 years of age, and previous to the war took a
keen interest in cricket, and was an active member of the local Salvation Army. This is the
second son Mrs Lee has lost in the war.

A Walter Lee was remembered on St Luke’s war memorial, Headless Cross, Redditch.
(On 1911 census Joseph Walter Lee aged 12, lived with his parents Stephen and Mary Ann Lee and siblings 9
The Slough, Crabbs Cross. His brother George Lee aged 20, cycle finisher was one of them. He died in 1917.)
