The Bromsgrove, Droitwich and Redditch Messenger – Saturday 23 August
1919
Welcome Home and Entertainment – Arrangements are being made for a
welcome home and entertainment of the men and women of the town who have served in
the Navy, Army, and air Force in the Great War. At a meeting of the Redditch Peace
Celebration Committee, on Monday night, reports were presented by the sub-committee,
who had been appointed to draw up the programme. From this is appeared that the day’s
proceedings would include a procession of local men and women who had rendered service
in the war, a civic reception by the Redditch Urban District Council, sports, a dinner, in the
new building at the Enfield Cycle Company’s Works, music and dancing, and a smoking
concert. Two bands had been engaged, and there would be peals on the bells of St Stephen’s
Church. The programme was approved, and committees appointed. An appeal is being
made for £1000.
