The Bromsgrove, Droitwich and Redditch Messenger – Saturday 2 August
               1919

Drumhead Service – the third annual drumhead service, arranged by the N.F.D.D.S.S.
(Redditch branch), took place on Church Green on Sunday. Ex-service men and
representatives of public bodies paraded the streets prior to the service, which was
conducted by the vicar of Redditch (the Rev. L. Bradley). Appropriate hymns were rendered
by an augmented choir, and addresses were given by the Vicar and the Rev. J. A. A. Baker,
formerly chaplain to His Majesty’s forces.

The Vicar and Social Unrest – Preaching at St Stephen’s on Sunday, the Rev. L. Bradley (Vicar)
made an allusion to the unrest in the country, and said as fast as one matter was settled
another burst out somewhere else, and one could not tell what would be the result.
Amongst the bad points were class hatred and selfishness, but that was not all. The absence
of true religion from their Council Schools had much to answer for, as the Christian faith
could not there be taught. There was hope in Mr Fisher’s Bill, because in some schools it
would mean another year for the saving of souls, and children would be children a little
               longer.
