The HISTORY of REDDITCH New Town
Hill Methodist Church parishioners decided to join forces and form a united Church known
as Trinity Church. This congregation began worshipping in the Ecumenical Centre (situated
above the Santander and Halifax banks on Evesham Walk), in 1976. In 2003 they joined
forces with Alcester Street Methodist and became one church, using the Ecumenical centre
for Sunday morning worship and in the evenings used the Alcester/Ipsley street Church
and changed the name to Emmanuel URC/Methodist Church. Supports The Churches
Together, Redditch.
Gospel Hall, Evesham Street, Redditch
The Christian brethren was founded in the 1890’s by William Royce. After renting rooms
in various places the brethren brought a piece of land in Evesham Street in 1919. The
Evesham Street Gospel Hall was opened in 1922. Demolished in 1975 to make way for
the Kingfisher Shopping Centre. The members then moved to the present building at the
Southcrest Evangelical Church, Plymouth Road, Southcrest, Redditch in 1975.

Methodist Church, Bates Hill, Redditch
The land was brought in 1841 for £211, the foundation stone was laid in 1842 and after
a cost of £2351 the church opened its doors in 1843. Demolished in the 1980’s to make
way for a gas and electrical store. The parishioners joined forces with the parishioners of
the Congregational Church, Evesham Street and formed a united church known as Trinity
Church in the Ecumenical centre. In 2003 they joined forces with Alcester Street Methodist
and became one church, using the Ecumenical centre for Sunday morning worship and
in the evenings used the Alcester/Ipsley street Church and changed the name to
Emmanuel URC/Methodist Church, 5 Evesham Walk, Town Centre in 1976.

In 2003 Alcester Street Methodist (Ipsley Street) Church and Trinity Church in the
Ecumenical Centre united to become one church on two sites called Emmanuel. Sunday
morning services in the ecumenical centre and the evenings in the Alcester/Ipsley Street
church.
