The HISTORY of REDDITCH New Town
Society of Friends (Quakers), The Meeting House, Matchborough, Redditch
Southcrest Evangelical Church, Plymouth Road, Southcrest, Redditch
The Christian Brethren was founded in Redditch in the 1890’s. The founder, William
Royce, firstly preached in the streets until renting rooms in various places. The brethren
built the Gospel Hall in Evesham Street, Redditch which was opened in 1922, where the
meetings were held until they moved to the present building in 1975.
St Andrew’s Methodist Church, Tanhouse Lane, Church Hill North, Redditch
Thanksgiving and Dedication service marked the official opening Sunday 2nd December
1984. Shared by the Anglican and Methodist Congregations of the Church Hill District.
St Bendedict’s Roman Catholic Church, Rowan Road, Batchley – Opened in 1958

St Bartholomew’s Church, Tardebigge, Church Lane (Off High House Lane)
Tardebigge
Rebuilt in 1777 and restored in 1879 and 1902 to the 135 foot high spire. Part of the
Holy Trinity team.
St David’s Church, Willow Way, Batchley
Was a Church in the heart of the Batchley estate. Daughter Church of St Stephen’s and
needing refurbishment in the 1980’s it was demolished and is now the site where St
David’s House is, which was built in 1990. A small congregation still meets each week
at St David’s House. Church closes as building unsafe.
St George’s Parish Church, St George’s Road, Redditch
Built in 1875 on land given by Lady Windsor Clive who also laid the foundation stone.
Was part of the Holy Trinity team. Closed in 2012 and now in 2017 is still up for Sale
St Gregory’s Roman Catholic Church. Winyates Way, Redditch
In 2008, the 25 year old church was damaged by fire but hadn’t been used as a church
for several years.
St John’s The Evangelist Church of England, Greenlands Avenue, Greenlands
St Leonard’s, Beoley
Dates back to the 12th century and one of five district churches within the Parish of
Redditch Holy Trinity.
